Job description
Car One Automotive is looking for a fully Qualified Mechanic with experience in diagnostics, troubleshooting, roadworthy inspections, and all other aspects of automotive mechanical work.
The suitable candidate should have Certificates 3 and 4 in Automotive Trade (or similar experience if you are an overseas mechanic living in Brisbane), and at least 5 years of practical experience.
Some of the duties will include:
- Helping identify mechanical issues and taking a course of action to resolve them
- Helping the workshop manager liaise with clients and support him with technical requirements and solutions
- Performing mechanical work as part of your regular duties as a qualified mechanic
- Work in harmony with other mechanics supporting each other and advising them on best industry standards and practices
- Test drive all sort of vehicles including high end European cars
- You are required to have your own trade tools (as usual), a valid Driver's license, and work full time from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Automotive Mechanic to join our dynamic team at Car One Automotive in Woolloongabba, Queensland. As a full-time Automotive Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of a wide range of vehicles, ensuring our customers receive exceptional service and get back on the road safely.
What you'll be doing
- Diagnose and repair various vehicle systems, including engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and electrical components
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid top-ups
- Provide transparent and accurate advice to customers on the condition of their vehicles and required repairs
- Maintain detailed records of all work performed and parts used
- Ensure the workshop is kept clean, organised, and compliant with all health and safety regulations
- Assist in the training and mentoring of junior mechanics, where required

Tasks & Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic tests on vehicles using advanced diagnostic equipment to identify issues and provide accurate repair solutions
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including but not limited to oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks
- Repair and replace parts, components, and systems, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, exhaust systems, and electrical systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical problems, ensuring all systems are functioning properly and safely
- Follow manufacturer's guidelines and technical specifications when performing repairs and maintenance
- Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections to identify and potential issues to customers
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all work performed, including detailed service reports and parts used
- Collaborate closely with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely service delivery
- Liaise with and report to the Workshop Manager regarding all issues with clients' cars
- Collaborate with the Workshop Manager on all warranty issues as required
- Ensure, to the best of your knowledge that all cars going through the workshop are mechanically safe and sound and do not require any repairs, and they will remain in that condition apart from normal wear and tear before they are handed over
- Stay current with the latest automotive advancements, including new technologies, repair techniques, and industry trends
- Provide excellent customer service by explaining repairs, options, and cost estimates to customers in a clear and friendly manner
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of both yourself and the customers' vehicles
- Ensure a clean and organized work area and proper disposal of hazardous materials and waste
- Perform test drives and quality checks to verify the success of repairs and maintenance
- Maintain the day-to-day operations of the workshop floor in coordination with the Workshop Manager
Minimum Qualification
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanic (Alternatively trade or overseas equivalent)
What we're looking for
- Formal qualifications in Automotive Mechanics or a related trade
- Proven minimum 5 years' experience as an Automotive Mechanic, preferably in a retail workshop environment
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex vehicle issues
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical information in a clear and understandable manner
- Commitment to safety and a proactive approach to maintaining a clean and organised work environment
- Flexibility to work as part of a team as well as independently
